Do you know me?
I’m a 16 year old student at a local high school. I’ve grown up here in Fairfax County and have benefited from the public education system. I’m on the varsity football team and I hope to go to UVA when I graduate in 2017. Recently, I have come out to my parents that I am gay and they have asked me to leave their household. For the past few weeks, I have been staying at a friend’s house but they can’t afford to host me forever so in a few weeks, hopefully, I’ll be on another friend’s couch. Being homeless has impacted my studies and my grades have suffered. I am homeless and fear that my dream of going to UVA are vanishing before me.
Can you see me? I am one of the many faces of Fairfax County’s homeless community. Please help the homeless be seen. This link will bring you to a page to find out what you can do to help the homeless in Fairfax County.
