Do you know me?
My name is Melissa. I have two daughters, ages one and four. They are so sweet. I have pictures if you want to see them. They’re living with my sister until I can get a job and a place of my own. Yes, I’m young – I just turned nineteen; I had my first girl when I was fifteen. Who’s the dad? Well, that’s not a pretty tale. He’s my uncle, he forced himself on me ever since I was about ten years old. When he got me pregnant, my mother blamed me, not him, so I had to leave. My second baby is from when I was raped by a man I met in a class I was taking on computers. I was just trying to better myself. After that, I didn’t want to run into him again so I dropped out of class. You don’t know anyone who has a room to rent for next to nothing, do you? I can only afford a few dollars a week but as soon as I get a good job I’ll be able to hold my own.
